Describes the effects of continental glaciation on the physical and economic geography of the central lowlands of the United States. Shows the production, processing, and distribution of the chief agricultural products of the North Central States--grain, meat, and dairy products; presents examples of the varied industries of the region, including the mining of coal and iron, and the manufacture of furniture, rubber tires, and automobiles; and shows the dependence of the region on transportation by railroads, trucks, and Great Lakes freighters.
