Project Mercury: Mercury-Redstone 1 Launch - NASA This 15-minute video shows the extensive testing procedures applied to the Mercury spacecraft before rollout. It also shows the rollout, launch attempts, and the final launch. A failed launch occurred on November 21, 1960 due to an electrical malfunction, but Mercury-Redstone 1A was launched successfully on December 17, 1960.
