PRESENTS HER OBSERVATIONS ABOUT LIFE IN A SEGREGATED COMMUNITY, EXPRESSING SOME OF THE HOPES and FRUSTRATIONS OF THE NEGRO POPULATION AS A WHOLE. Shows the disadvantages, frustrations, and hopes of Negro life in an American ghetto as seen through the eyes of a young Negro girl living in Watts in suburban Los Angeles in the spring of 1965, a few months before rioting broke out.
