This film tells the story of Oji San, a wise old man in Japan, and his grandson Tada. During the rice harvest, Oji San unexpectedly burns the entire crop. The villagers are angered and confused until Oji San reveals that he saw a tsunami approaching and sacrificed the harvest to signal the villagers to flee to higher ground, saving their lives. The villagers rebuild and erect a bell in honor of Oji San and Tada, to warn of future tsunamis.
