DESCRIPTION
In the fall of 1917, the German Army and Navy launched Operation Albion, an amphibious assault in the Baltic Sea aimed at seizing islands to pressure Russia into peace negotiations. Despite their lack of experience in such operations, the Germans successfully captured the islands of Ösel, Moon, and Dagö in just over a week, taking over 20,000 Russian soldiers and significant military equipment. This operation significantly weakened Russian morale, coinciding with the onset of the Bolshevik Revolution shortly after, which shifted the focus of German troops back to the Western Front.
